Learning Resource Centre
We are extremely lucky to have such a welcoming space at Yeovil College which supports our students at all levels of their studies and career journeys. There are over 20,000 books, e-books and journals available; as well as an exceptional range of online databases, accessible both in College and whilst studying independently off campus.
The Learning Resource Centre has study desks and pc’s with full WiFi access and staff are available to help and support students with logging on, IT queries and printing. Students can connect their own devices and also borrow laptops for lessons from Lapsafes situated around the campus.
Our Learning Resource Centre staff are a helpful and extremely knowledgeable first point of contact for students looking for resources for assignments and dissertations. There is a range of core texts and subject texts, along with other collections such as careers, wellbeing, graded readers, ability reading and fiction. You’ll be surprised by what’s on offer.
Students from our University Centre, YCUC who are studying higher level qualifications, are also supported within the Quiet Study Area (QSA). The QSA is staffed during term time and has study desks, ‘Bring your own device’ connectivity and a social space.
The QSA is located on the 5th Floor of the Kingston Building and is a quiet and relaxed environment for independent study.
We support in many ways:
- Ensuring the LRC is accessible to all learners to study and learn
- Helping students find and use library resources, both hard copy and electronic.
- Delivering sessions from a programme designed to develop sound information and research skills, including searching the library catalogue, using e-books, referencing and database searching.
- Finding and adding suitable resources to Teams and Moodle (Yeovil College’s Virtual Learning Environment).
- Identifying, highlighting and purchasing a variety of suitable resources in a variety of media to support the range of courses offered.
