We have had apprentices at Yeovil College for over 15 years and have carried out functional skills and lean training over many years. Apprentices are our future and the business recognises this through a higher rate of pay, which increases as they add more value. Some qualifications are very difficult and can stretch the learner, but with the support of the college and the business we overcome this. Many of our Apprentices move onto supervisor roles and stay with us long term.

Yeovil College supports a number of apprentices in council services and local schools. Somerset has taken on over 200 apprentices since 2017. Managers have been really receptive to new generations and surprised how much they have learned from the apprentices too.

Apprenticeships allow our business the time to be able to craft the next generation of guitar builders. The assessors are great with communication of the apprentice’s progression. The in-house visits are great as we don’t lose any work time and apprentices can easily show progression. Apprenticeships have allowed us to train specific roles in a niche market where we would struggle to find someone already trained. Yeovil College Apprenticeships are giving younger generations a doorway into skilled future careers.
