ACCESSIBILITY FOR ALL

ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT FOR WEBSITE https://www.yeovil.ac.uk/

This accessibility statement applies to the main Yeovil College website (www.yeovil.ac.uk) and Yeovil College University Centre (www.ycuc.ac.uk).

This website is run by Yeovil College. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability

Some accessibility features our websites include are listed below:

  • The ability to resize text
  • Strong colour contrast
  • Page layouts resize and respond to the size of your browser window
  • Optimised content for screen readers and keyboard navigation

How accessible this website is

There are some accessibility issues within this website and we are working hard to rectify them, where appropriate and subject to best practice guidelines:

  • There are few contrast issues within the website
  • Some content cannot be accessed using a keyboard
  • Some users may have issues with navigation menus (keyboard users)
  • Some parts of the website do not have focus indication
  • Most older PDF documents (found mostly within our Policy section and documentsare not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text.

We are currently seeking a web partner to support us in ensuring that our website not only meets but exceeds the WCAG 2.1 AA standards. This is in development, and subject to the financial burden, will be implemented by the end of 2024.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations:

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By September 204, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility roadmap to show how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website will be available in September 2023.
