School Leavers’ Application Process

Step 1 – RESEARCH YOUR NEXT STEPS

At Yeovil College, we are perhaps different to other institutions, we actively encourage you to do your research and look at us alongside other sixth forms and colleges. When you choose Yeovil College, we want it to be your perfect choice, not your second choice. The best way to make a decision is with plenty of information on all the choices available to you. From the end of Year 10 onwards, it is important that you:

  • Engage with our School Liaison team when they’re at your school.
  • Visit the Yeovil College campus through a campus tour or through one of our fantastic Open Events.
  • Speak with a Careers Advisor for additional support, you will have access to an advisor at school, or you can contact a Yeovil College Careers Advisor through our Careers Hub.
  • Join bespoke events such as taster sessions with your school or our annual Apprenticeship and Careers Fair.
  • Use our ‘Match your Skills’ tool to identify a potential career pathway for you, with live information on salary, industry growth and which Yeovil College course can get you there

Step 2 – COMPLETE YOUR ONLINE APPLICATION

Complete your application form online, at home, at school, wherever you are able to. At every Open Event, we have a live application zone where you can be supported by our friendly team to complete your application.

If you’re not 100% sure about which course is right for you or need further support on making an application, then give our Student and Customer Service team a call on 01935 423921 or drop them an email on iZone@yeovil.ac.uk.

Step 3 – YOUR INTERVIEW

The next step is the interview, but this is a very informal process. We want to have a chat about your strengths and career ambitions. Be prepared to talk about yourself, and even bring along some examples of work if relevant to your course. It’s important to us that we give you an offer for the right course at the right level.

Step 4 – YOUR OFFER

You will be offered a place at Yeovil College via email. Let us know that you’d like to accept this offer by clicking the button on the email. If you have any questions, or don’t receive an email following your interview, get in touch.

Step 5 – NEW STUDENTS’ DAY

This is the first time you will meet all your tutors and new classmates. This is also an opportunity to check that you’re on the right course. During this day you will also enrol on to your programme and have your photo taken for your student ID card.

Step 6 – EXAMINATION CHECK

Following on from GCSE Results Day, all GCSE grades will be checked against your YC offer.

Step 7 – ENROLMENT DROP IN

If you didn’t make it to New Students’ Day (and therefore haven’t enrolled) or you have achieved different GCSE grades to those anticipated, then you will be invited back in to college for further advice and support.

Step 8 – INTRODUCTION DAY

This day takes place in the first week of term and is where you will finalise your paperwork, receive your student ID and sign the student code of conduct.

Step 9 -WELCOME TO YEOVIL COLLEGE

Your extraordinary future begins here, bring the relevant equipment, a positive learning attitude and a determination to achieve.
