English & Maths
Great English and Maths skills are essential in all careers. At Yeovil College, both English and Maths will form a central part of your study programme if you are aged 16-18 and have not yet achieved a grade 4 (formerly a grade C). We believe that achieving such skills are critical to your future success and you will continue to develop competence and confidence levels. If you have a grade 3 or below, you will undertake a one year Functional Skills study programme. This will give you the opportunity to gain a widely recognised qualification and take a step towards achieving a grade 4 or higher at GCSE.
Why are English and Maths critical to your career?
+ Beauticians need to be able to calculate prices and order stock;
+ Plumbers must be able to price up jobs and buy materials;
+ Health and Social Care employees need to communicate effectively with patients and people within their care;
+ Catering staff must be able to check stock levels and re-order food and drink;
+ Engineers need to calculate drawings accurately;
+ A Paramedic needs to have good communication skills to look after their patient and work within a team.
