Work Experience & Industry Placements

Yeovil College and its partner employers believe that undertaking work experience and industry placement is an important element of a balanced study programme. We know that students who have been exposed to work placements become confident, well-rounded and work-ready people; an asset to any employer.

Industry placements and work experience are designed to give learners a valuable opportunity to put their learning into practice, develop excellent skills and to become truly employable. All of our technical courses include an element of work experience or industry placement, varying in timing and duration ranging from 30 to 315 hours. The Industry placement offer will be matched with the learner, the employer and the career aspirations of each individual to ensure everyone enjoys maximum benefit for their time together. Industry placements are great news for our students too. Students will be uniquely placed to gain a competitive advantage over others of the same age.

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Improve their ability to get a job;
  • Develop knowledge and skills relevant to their course and future career;
  • Gain a greater understanding of what it’s like to work in their chosen industry;
  • Receive coaching and mentoring from a line manager.

Why get involved with industry placements?

The education sector is undergoing massive change. The reforms introduce T levels (Technical levels) which are two year, Level 3, technical training programmes, and provide a high quality alternative to the traditional A Level route.

We want our learners to achieve the exact skills, knowledge and behaviours that employers want, making them both massively employable and positioning them perfectly to kick-start their future careers in their sector of choice.

We have a dedicated team to support learners with their placements, if you would like to know more about this please contact Yeovil College and ask for the Work Experience Team.
