YEOVIL COLLEGE CONSTRUCTION APPRENTICE WINS ESTEEMED SOUTH WEST COMPETITION
A Yeovil College Construction Apprentice has beaten-off stiff competition from across the South West to secure a well-earned place in the finals. Jacob Culver, a construction apprentice employed by CHG South West Limited was crowned South West’s regional winner of the HIP Learner of the Year competition.
During January and February, HIP travels to six regions across the UK in search of the best upcoming talent within the plumbing and heating industry. In each location, twelve students will battle it out in a live practical test, with six regional winners going through to the Grand Final, which will take place in April.
Celebrating its fifteenth year, the competition provides a fantastic platform for apprentice and student plumbers to showcase their skills, gain confidence and win an array of prizes to support them at the very start of their careers.
Jacob was sponsored by Yeovil College, who believed he had the skills set, motivation and technical knowledge to represent them in a positive way.
Jacob reflected upon his success, saying that he was ‘really happy with his performance, feeling a strong sense of pride, self-confidence and belief within himself’. He said: “I am Looking forward to the final and am really keen to meet people who are as passionate as me about our industry.”
Jacob also shared thoughts on his employer, CHG South West Limited, saying: “If it wasn’t for my employer I wouldn’t be at this stage of the competition. The quality of work at my company is amazing. I’m very fortunate to be at a company with such high standards. They strive for me to be the best I can and produce a high standard and quality of work.”
Yeovil College and the whole of the South West region sit firmly behind Jacob as he awaits to tackle the rest of the regional winner from around the UK in the finals, which take place in April.
