Yeovil College Announces Addition of A Level Physical Education (PE)

Yeovil College is thrilled to announce the addition of A Level Physical Education (PE) to the Yeovil Institute of Sport line-up, starting from September 2025. This exciting development means that current Year 11 students can now choose A Level PE as one of their three A Level options.

Students will have the unique opportunity to study, play, learn, and train in our state-of-the-art new facility, which is set to open in September 2025. This cutting-edge environment will provide an exceptional educational and athletic experience and is set to be one of the best facilities within the region.

The aims and objectives of the A Level are designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of physical activity and sport.

The key goals include:

  • Theoretical Knowledge: Develop a strong foundation in the factors that underpin physical activity and sport, using this knowledge to enhance performance.
  • Physiological and Psychological Understanding: Explore how both physiological and psychological states impact performance and how to leverage this understanding for improvement.
  • Socio-Cultural Awareness: Gain insight into the socio-cultural factors that influence participation in physical activity and sport, developing a deeper understanding of diverse contexts.
  • Role of Technology: Recognise the role of technology in improving performance and shaping the future of physical activity and sport.
  • Performance Enhancement: Refine physical skills and techniques, while learning to apply strategies and compositional ideas to enhance effectiveness in practice and competition.
  • Analytical Skills: Develop critical analytical abilities to assess and improve performance, and a mindset of continual growth.
  • Health and Fitness: Understand the significant contribution physical activity makes to overall health and fitness, both at an individual and community level.
  • Independent and Reflective Learning: Cultivate skills as effective, independent learners, developing critical thinking, curiosity, and a reflective approach to personal and academic growth.

All our learners will undertake work experience during their time with us at Yeovil College. This critical element of the course provides learners with wider skills and supports their progression to their required destination.

Our lecturers are industry experts with a wealth of real-world experience, bringing cutting-edge knowledge and practical insights to the classroom.
