The aims and objectives of this qualification are designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of physical activity and sport. The key goals include:

Work Experience & Industry Placements

All our learners will undertake work experience during their time with us at Yeovil College. This critical element of the course provides learners with wider skills and supports their progression to their required destination.

After The Course

Students can progress from this qualification to:

  • Further study of physical education in higher education
  • Vocational courses such as the BTEC National in Sport and Sport and Exercise Sciences
  • Apprenticeships or other training

English And Maths

You will need to hold GCSE's in English and Maths at Grade 5 or equivalent to enrol on A levels.

How Will I Be Assessed

The Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in Physical Education consists of two externally examined papers and two non-examined assessment.

  • Component 1: Scientific Principles of Physical Education. Written examination: 2 hours and 30 minutes 40% of the qualification marks.
  • Component 2: Psychological and Social Principles of Physical Education. Written examination: 2 hours 30% of the qualification marks.
  • Component 3: Practical Performance. Non-examined assessment: internally assessed, externally moderated 15% of the qualification marks.
  • Component 4: Performance Analysis and Performance Development Programme. Non-examined assessment: internally assessed, externally moderated 15% of the qualification marks.
