Exciting Build Update at Yeovil College
Yeovil College is thrilled to announce significant progress on the Big Build Project, an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming the campus and enhancing the learning experience for current and future generations within the community.
This week, the Senior Leadership Team had the pleasure of visiting the site, including the new Yeovil Institute of Sports Centre. The team was able to climb to the roof of the new facility, gaining a unique perspective on the innovative designs and construction progress.
The Big Build Project, funded by the Department for Education (DfE), represents a historic £60+ million investment in further education for Somerset and North and West Dorset. This transformative redevelopment includes the creation of state-of-the-art facilities such as a cutting-edge Sports Centre, a Technical Construction Centre, and a large, modern Teaching Centre. The new campus will feature advanced training equipment, versatile fields and pitches, and nearly 100 state-of-the-art classrooms.
Mark Bolton, Principal & CEO of Yeovil College, commented: “The Big Build Project represents a significant milestone in our journey to provide exceptional educational facilities. We are dedicated to creating an environment that inspires and supports our students, and this project is a clear reflection of that commitment.”
“The redevelopment will increase the campus building space from 18,000 m² to 21,700 m², accommodating the recent growth of Yeovil College. The additional footprint will provide teaching and learning environments to nurture local talent, skills, and innovation, addressing the diverse needs of the community and enhancing employment opportunities in the region.
“Yeovil College will become a College like no other; a one in a generational development, making an impact for decades to come.”
Sustainability Efforts
Yeovil College is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The Big Build Project incorporates numerous green initiatives, including energy-efficient building designs, the use of sustainable materials, and the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar panels. The project also focuses on reducing waste and promoting recycling throughout the construction process. These efforts align with Yeovil College’s goal to minimise its carbon footprint and create a sustainable campus for future generations.
The project is expected to be completed by 2027, with key milestones including the opening of the Yeovil Institute of Sport in September 2025, the Construction Innovation Centre in January 2026 and the completion of the flagship Teaching Centre in June 2027.
