Former Premier League Footballer Strengthens New Yeovil College & Yeovil Town FC Partnership
Yeovil College is proud to announce the appointment of Roy O’Brien as Head of Performance Football at the Yeovil College Institute of Sport, as part of an exciting, renewed partnership with Yeovil Town Football Club (YTFC).
This enhanced collaboration creates a clear, exclusive pathway into YTFC U19s, combining elite football development with a Level 3 Sport qualification, and marks a significant step forward for football education in the region.
Roy brings over 14 years of professional playing experience, having represented prestigious clubs including Arsenal FC, Wigan Athletic FC, AFC Bournemouth, and Yeovil Town FC. During his career, Roy achieved major honours, including winning the National League Conference and FA Trophy, playing a key role in Yeovil Town’s rise through the Football League.
His experience extends beyond playing, having served as Player/Assistant Manager at Weymouth FC, leading them to National League South success, and later managing Dorchester Town FC. Roy also spent five successful years as Development Officer and Joint Manager of the Yeovil Town Community Sports Trust, developing strong links within grassroots football.
Now, Roy joins Yeovil College at a pivotal moment, helping to shape a new, player-centred performance programme delivered in partnership with YTFC. Based at the state-of-the-art Institute of Sport and competing at Huish Park, students will benefit from a professional training environment aligned to the demands of the modern game.
