Yeovil College was honoured to welcome the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Mr. Mohammad Saddiq, and his team, for his inaugural visit to Yeovil College on 29th April 2025. This visit marked a significant occasion for both the College and the local community, highlighting the College’s achievements and future aspirations.
Mr. Saddiq, who was appointed as Lord Lieutenant in October 2022, toured the campus and met with students, faculty, and staff. His visit included a comprehensive overview of the College’s recent developments, including the ambitious Big Build Project, which aims to transform the campus with state-of-the-art facilities such as the Yeovil Institute of Sports Centre and the Technical Construction Centre.
During his visit, Mr. Saddiq learned about Yeovil College’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The Big Build Project incorporates numerous green initiatives, including energy-efficient building designs and the integration of renewable energy sources. These efforts align with the College’s goal to minimize its carbon footprint and create a sustainable campus for future generations.
Mr. Saddiq also engaged with the College’s leadership team to discuss the innovative curriculum and its impact on students’ future prospects. Yeovil College’s collaboration with universities to provide higher education opportunities and its role in enhancing employability skills and knowledge were key topics of discussion.
“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Saddiq to Yeovil College,” said Mark Bolton, Principal & CEO of Yeovil College. “His visit is an excellent opportunity to showcase our achievements and share our vision for the future. We look forward to discussing how we can continue to support the community and foster local talent.”
The honorary visit culminated in a memorable event at iAero, where Yeovil College Creative Arts students showcased their artwork. This special private viewing was followed by an awards ceremony, celebrating the students’ creative achievements. Over several months, these talented individuals have been working on a live brief titled ‘Reimagine, Redefine,’ which challenged them to push the boundaries of their artistic expression. The event not only highlighted their hard work and dedication but also provided a platform for their innovative ideas to be recognised and appreciated.
