Client Selection Guidelines
As part of your practical training, you will be required to work on real clients. It is important that all clients meet specific eligibility and safety criteria before treatment can take place. These requirements will be discussed fully during your first weeks on the course to ensure you understand how to assess suitability and plan safe treatments.
Important Skin and Tanning Guidelines
To protect client safety and ensure treatment effectiveness:
Do not treat suntanned skin.
Increased melanin levels following sun exposure can lead to unpredictable results, including the risk of long term pigmentation changes.
Clients with artificial (spray or self applied) tans must not be treated until the product has completely faded from the skin.
Residual tanning products can interfere with light absorption and increase the risk of complications.
Clear guidance on tanning timelines, client preparation, and patch testing will be provided during your induction and practical training sessions.

Our Lecturers
Teaching Learning and Assessment
Learning will be achieved through a combination of class-based sessions, group activity, and independent study.A typical week has around 7 hours of contact time in taught sessions, plus additional 1:1 support available by student request. As with all higher education programmes, students are required to take ownership of their learning and development and should therefore expect to spend time studying with independence outside of lectures. Time spent studying independently may include reading journal articles and relevant books, undertake research, and complete assignments by set deadlines. As a rough guide, learners should expect to spend at least 3 hours studying outside of class per week.
Please note that one of the timetabled sessions will not fall on the same day as the others due to an external assessment visit for More information about this will be shared with you at interview.
