Kick Start to Hair & Beauty - Level 1 (Starting 2024)

The Kickstart programme offers the opportunity to be creative and learn a variety of Hair and Beauty skills, knowledge and behaviours. You will work towards the VTCT Level 1 Award in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector this qualification has been designed to introduce the learner to a range of practical skills from across the hair and beauty industries.

Many skills, knowledge and behaviours learnt are transferable into other curriculum areas of the college. You can progress to the Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty or based on entry requirements and successful skills scan apply for Level 2 in Beauty, Media Makeup, Hairdressing or Barbering.

This qualification will give learners the opportunity to perform basic hair and beauty services alongside assisting others in the salon. The following units are - - Introduction to the hair and beauty sector - Present a professional image in a salon. -Create an Image based on a theme – this unit involves learning a variety of hair and beauty skills to create a final look based on a theme. Mood boards, planning and skill is assessed.

You will attend one day a week and during this day you will have some theory knowledge delivered to you. From this you will be required to compete a work pack of questions related to the topic. This will be submitted for marking and assessed for competency as part of your portfolio of evidence. There will be various practical demonstrations that you will then be expected to give and receive to learn the skill necessary to work towards your set project of create an image based on a theme. This project will be assessed and marked as part of your final grade. You will require a model for this final look. You will be expected to acknowledge the Industries behaviours by wearing all black smart clothing whilst working in the salons. No kit is required. Excellent Attendance, punctuality and a enthusiasm for the course is required.
