Course Overview

This course is designed to help identify and prepare you for university or a possible career in the Unformed Services, such as the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, RAF, Police, Ambulance Services, Fire Service or Prison Service. The course will develop a thorough knowledge of the Uniformed Public Services and their role in society, as well as a range of transferable skills, such as leadership, communication and teamwork. It allows you to contribute towards and work effectively both as an individual and as part of a team.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

There will be employers from the Emergencies Services and the Armed Forces such as the Army, Royal Marines, Royal Navy, Police Service and Prison Service who will come into college to give presentations on their various services. You will also visit various different Uniform Public Services establishment where you will have a chance to interact with serving personnel.

Qualification Gained

NCFE L3 Diploma or Extended Diploma for Entry to the Uniformed Services.

After The Course

Previous students who have studied Uniformed Public Services at Yeovil College have gone onto join the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, RAF, Police Service and Prison Service. Alternatively, you can look to join the Fire Service or continue your education at university to study degrees, such as the HND in Policing at Yeovil College in preparation for a career in the Police service.

What Will I Learn

You will learn a range of different units that have been chosen to ensure you gain a full-rounded understanding of the Uniformed Public Services. Units range from Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services, Understanding the Impact of War, Conflict and Terrorism on Public Services, Government, Policies and the Public Service to Fitness testing and Training for the Uniformed Public Services.

English And Maths

5 GCSE's grade 4 and above (including Maths and English Language). If you do not meet the requirements of this course, we recommend Uniformed Public Services Level 2.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You will be taught with a range of different teaching methods from classroom teaching to practical teaching outside to fitness within the sports hall and on the sports pitches.

Tutorials

Weekly tutorials used for one-to-one support, progress updates, employability skills and workshops, taster sessions and guest speakers.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed by a range of different methods ranging from written assignments, practical activities, presentations and discussions.

Entry Requirements

You need at least five GCSEs at grade 9 – 4 including English and maths.

Required Experience

No previous experience is required, however, a strong desire to work in the Uniformed Public Services will stand you in good stead.
