Course Overview

This course is designed for people aged 19 or older who are considering a career in Barbering. This course will take place in person at Yeovil College and will be delivered over one evening per week for the whole academic year. The Level 2 Certificate in Barbering is a vocational qualification that has been designed to develop a limited number of barbering skills to a high level of occupational ability and will prepare you to enter the men's hairdressing sector as a unisex hairdresser.

This qualification includes the units to prepare you to work effectively as a junior unisex hairdresser, including 4 main units such as: client consultation for hair services, cutting men's hair, cutting facial hair and following health and safety in the salon.

This qualification will develop your knowledge, understanding and skills to enable you to advise and consult with men on the type of haircut and facial hair shaping the way they want, but just as importantly what is suitable for them. You will also learn how to work in a safe manner throughout the service protecting both yourself and your clients.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Work placement and industry experience is encouraged whilst undergoing this course.

After The Course

Progression onto Level 3 Barbering NVQ, or Level 2 Hairdressing courses. After finishing this course, you will be qualified as a junior barber, you could decide to take additional courses in this sector, and would be welcome to discuss your options with your tutor. The course is taught by well qualified and experienced industry professionals, who are dedicated to ensuring student success through effective curriculum delivery and high-quality student support. The team includes staff with relevant sector experience and expertise.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Teaching and learning is designed to support all students to achieve. There are a mixture of practical and theory-based sessions, and you will have the chance to put the theory you learn into practice in the salon. In addition, you will complete online work packs.

You will complete practical assessments on live models which you will need to source yourself.

As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.

Course Expenses

The cost for this course is £362. you will also need to purchase your kit at a cost of approximately £350.

Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed through practical observation, online and written exams and through online work packs. You will complete a work pack and will complete multiple choice exams throughout the duration of this course. You will need to complete the workbook and pass the multiple choice tests in order to achieve the qualification.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone with an interest in Barbering. This course requires a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2). Required Experience

Experience in the hair industry is helpful, however, not essential.
