Course Overview

This study programme focuses on the basic knowledge and practical skills required to start your journey to becoming a fully qualified technician in the motor vehicle industry. You will learn how engines, steering systems, suspension components and brakes work whilst also looking at wheels and tyres, exhaust systems, vehicle transmissions and hybrid/electric vehicles.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Our employability skills team will help you secure an industry placement that is linked to a motor vehicle career, attending 1 day per week and/or through a block week format.

Qualification Gained

Level 1 Diploma in Transport Maintenance Light Vehicle.

After The Course

This course is the ideal stepping stone to our Level 2 Motor Vehicle course.

What Will I Learn

You will learn how engines, steering systems, suspension components and brakes work whilst also looking at wheels and tyres, exhaust systems, vehicle transmissions and hybrid/electric vehicles.

English And Maths

You will get the opportunity to work towards your English and Maths to GSCE Grade 4 or equivalent depending on your circumstances.

Our lecturers have a passion for the motor vehicle industry. All have been technicians in the trade and regularly attend events to ensure their skills are up to date and relevant in the rapidly changing motor vehicle sector. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge with the next generation of vehicle technicians.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You will be taught and assessed through a series of theory and practical lessons. Talks by experts and industry related visits will help you gain the knowledge required to be successful.

Supportive one hour tutorial sessions are incorporated into your timetable.

A course resource and equipment fee is applicable for this course. Additional fees may be required to allow for planned visits.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed through a mixture of online theory exams and practical assessments during the programme.

Entry Requirements

GCSE's at grade 2 or above in English and maths.

Required Experience

None required but lots of passion and commitment about the subject are a must.
