Course Overview

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is a knowledge based introduction to teaching and/or training which has no teaching/training practice requirement. Therefore, it may be undertaken by candidates who are not in a teaching role.

This course is delivered part-time over 12 weeks. Classes are 3 hours and run on a Tuesday evening.

City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

After The Course

Following this course, candidates often progress their Initial Teacher Training journey by moving on to either the Level 4 Certificate or the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.

What Will I Learn

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills required by teachers/trainers in the further education and training skills sector including:

  • The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Facilitating learning and development for individuals and groups
  • Understanding principles and practices of Assessment

English And Maths

Through assessment and delivery, your English and maths skills will be developed to incorporate the requirements of the wider curriculum and to replicate how you, as a teacher, can support the English and maths development of your own students.

Our Lecturers

This course is delivered by a combination of highly experienced and qualified lecturers and industry experts.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Teaching and learning will be through a mix of taught sessions, in class group work and teacher led discussions. Active participation in these activities will enable the best outcome as candidates gain peer support and learn from each other’s experiences. Learners are assessed through written assignments and the delivery of a 15 minute micro-teach session. All learning outcomes are internally assessed and marked online via our Virtual Learning Environment. The final micro-teach activity is peer assessed by others in the group and by the tutor.

There is one formal tutorial within this 12 week course, however, more are available upon request.

Course Expenses

The cost for this course is £605. A course text book is recommended for purchase at induction or available as an ebook via the Learning Resource Centre.

Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will complete two assignments and a 15 minute micro-teach module.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, however candidates should have an interest in developing their knowledge of education. Ideally, candidates should have a qualification in the subject they would like to teach. Experience of teaching or training is not required.

Please note that if you are intending to pursue a career in the education sector, the acquisition of Level 2 maths and English is essential. However, Level 2 English and maths qualifications are preferred but not compulsory for this qualification.

Required Experience

None, although some experience of teaching or training would be valuable.
