Yeovil College launches New Bakery Apprenticeship to Nurture the Next Generation of Bakers
Yeovil College is proud to announce the launch of its brand-new Level 2 Bakery Apprenticeship, a dynamic and hands-on programme designed to equip aspiring bakers with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to thrive in the bakery industry.
This exciting new apprenticeship marks a significant addition to the College’s growing portfolio of vocational training opportunities. Aimed at individuals passionate about baking and eager to start a career in the food production sector, the programme blends practical, workplace-based learning with expert-led training sessions at the College.
Apprentices will gain a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification in Bakery and have the opportunity to specialise in one of three distinct pathways: Craft Baker, Plant Baker, or Retail Baker. Each route offers a tailored experience, allowing learners to focus on the area of baking that best suits their interests and career ambitions.
“This new apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who wants to turn their love of baking into a rewarding career,” said a spokesperson for Yeovil College. “We’ve designed the programme to be both practical and flexible, ensuring apprentices gain real-world experience while developing the core skills that employers are looking for.”
Throughout the 14-month programme, apprentices will cover key duties such as preparing and packaging bakery products, managing stock and ingredients, maintaining hygiene standards, completing production documentation, and contributing to product improvement. The course also includes 12 masterclasses delivered at Yeovil College, providing additional support and enrichment.
To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum Grade 3 in English and Maths or be willing to work towards Level 2 Functional Skills during the apprenticeship. A placement with a relevant employer is also required, and the College is actively supporting learners in securing suitable opportunities.
Yeovil College is now accepting applications for the first cohort of bakery apprentices, with places available for a September 2025 start.
