Jacob Culver, Plumbing Apprentice with CHG Southwest Limited.
“I was put forward for the HIP Learner of the Year competition by the college, but I believed I had the skills set, motivation and technical knowledge to represent the college in a positive way. I am really happy with myself for winning the regionals, I wanted to show myself what I am capable of and prove that I can do it. I feel very prideful, and it was nice to show off my confidence for a change.
If it wasn’t for my employer I wouldn’t be at this stage of the competition. The quality of work at my company is amazing. I am very fortunate to be at a company with such high standards. They strive for me to be the best I can and produce a high standard and quality of work.”
Leo Govier, former Sport and Exercise Science student, previously of Holyrood Academy.
“I chose to study this course because I have loved all aspects of sport for as long as I can remember. After a knee injury, I became fascinated by my physiotherapist’s work and decided that I wanted to become a physiotherapist myself. My tutor has been incredibly supportive and I could not have achieved this without his support. The practical sessions have been really helpful in consolidating my knowledge, and now I am excited to move on to study Sports Science at the University of Exeter.”
Sasha Snell, former T Level in Education and Childcare student, previously of Westfield Academy.
“The work experience placement really helped me to gain crucial skills that will benefit me in the workplace. The course is lots of hard work, but the lecturers really know how to balance the work with fun so that it is enjoyable. Throughout the programme I have really developed my confidence as well.”
Abigail Wellwood, former A Levels student, previously of Preston School.
“Lecturers have been really supportive throughout my studies. I am extremely excited to be starting at Bath University to study Natural Science after achieving triple A* in Chemistry, Biology and Geography.”
Michelle Joy, Parent of former Supported Intern Ben
My son studied at Yeovil College for three years, progressing through from the Foundation Learning programme to a Supported Internship. After we initially applied, he had a supported interview where everything was appropriate for his level of communication and the team worked directly with him to work out which route would be best for him.
During his first two years, the team helped him to achieve his Entry Level 3 in English and his Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths. At the end of his second year, he was successful in securing a supported internship in Yeovil District Hospital for his third year and whilst completing his third year he also passed his GCSE in Maths. At the end of his study programme, the team supported him to work on his CV and apply for an apprenticeship, which he was successful in achieving.
The support that Yeovil College provided to my young man, seeing the development of his confidence and to see him out in the workplace is nothing short of wonderful.
Ellie Miller, Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice at Yeovil College
I am so glad that this apprenticeship was the path that I decided to take. My rotational Business Administration apprenticeship has allowed me to begin exploring different business support functions. This has been extremely beneficial to me as I have already gained so much knowledge and improved on many of my skills. Each department I have been to so far has been very different, but I have been supported with settling into each team. I enjoy working at the college as I get to meet lots of new people every day; all staff members have been welcoming and kind. I am looking forward to the rest of my apprenticeship and to seeing what the other departments have to offer.
