OPEN EVENT DESIGNED FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WITH SPECIALIST NEEDS & SEND

Yeovil College is pleased to announce a special Open Event tailored to support young people and individuals with specialist needs, high needs, and SEND. Taking place on Thursday 14th November, from 5pm to 6.30pm on campus [Mudford Road entrance], this event is designed for those who require additional or higher-level support to achieve their life and career goals.

The smaller and bespoke Open Event provides an opportunity for students and their parents or guardians to engage in meaningful conversations with our teaching and support experts, with a commitment to personalised support ensures that every attendee receives the attention and resources they need to thrive.

During the event, visitors will have the chance to explore the support functions that enable young people to focus on their education with the right teams and resources behind them. Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Meet and speak with our SEND team.
  • Discuss Exam Access Arrangements and the support available for this.
  • Explore the Foundation Learning department to see if it’s the right pathway for them.
  • Meet support staff from SEND, Student Support, iZone, and the Careers Teams.
  • Ask questions about the EHCP application process.

Derrick Goddard, Curriculum Area Manager for the Foundation Learning Curriculum, said: “At Yeovil College, we are dedicated to helping our students achieve their goals, whether it’s gaining independence, securing employment, or pursuing further or higher education. Through our SEND curriculum and specialist Additional Learning Support team, students will maximize their learning outcomes and future career options, no matter their starting point.”

Yeovil College’s diverse range of study programmes and cross-college support services are crafted to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. College students participate in various activities aimed at enhancing their academic, vocational, and social skills, whether the student is learning within the Foundation Learning Department, through a Supported Internship programme, or within their wider Vocational Curriculum offer.

Yeovil College provides a diverse range of study programmes aimed towards people with more complicated needs and to those who need extra time to develop personally and academically, both within their Foundation Learning Department and across their main curriculum offer. The purpose being to create life-changing opportunities through the creation of the best educational offer and employer/community collaborations.
