Electrical Vehicle (EV) Charging Point Installation & Maintenance Level 3 - Apprenticeship Unit

This short course is designed for qualified electricians who want to build their skills in the fast-growing electric vehicle (EV) sector and meet industry entry requirements set out in the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification. Aimed at those already confident in low-voltage circuit design, it provides the knowledge and practical understanding needed to design, install, and maintain EV charging equipment in domestic and small commercial settings. The course covers current IET guidelines, relevant regulations, and key industry standards, including installation, testing, fault finding, and maintenance of EV charging systems. Learners will also explore important topics such as protection against faults, smart charging technology, and integrating EV systems into modern electrical installations.

Following this course you will be approved to design, install and commission EV charging station for residential and small commercial projects.

Through this course you will :

• learn how to apply health and safety legislation and safe working practices when working with electric vehicle charge points.
• learn how to use key mathematical, electrical, and scientific principles to support installation, testing, fault finding, and maintenance.
• learn about different types of equipment, their features, and requirements in both domestic and commercial settings.
• learn how to design, plan, install, and commission EV charging systems to meet industry standards.
• learn how to carry out fault finding, inspection, testing, and maintenance using the correct tools and techniques.
• learn how to keep accurate records and communicate professionally using digital platforms.

You will complete a Skills assessment test.

Learners must hold one of the following:

• City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (2357)
• City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357)
• City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (5357)
• City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356)
• City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)
• City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification (2347)
• Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
• Equivalent historical qualifications Electrotechnical Assessment Specification

or

• ECS Gold Card issued by the JIB or SJIB – Installation Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, or Domestic Electrician

You must already be a fully approved practicing electrician.
