Course Overview

This one-day, continual professional development, qualification is aimed at practicing electricians interested in understanding how to design and install the range of electric vehicle charging equipment and systems available. It aims to provide expert guidance to learners wishing to gain further knowledge and understanding of electric vehicle charging equipment design and installation.

The course is for one day only, however, you will need return for the exam/assessment.

Qualification Gained

City and Guilds Level 3 2921-31 Design and installation of domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging installations.

After The Course

This qualification will enable you to confidently design and install domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging installations.

Although you will already be a practicing electrician, you would be welcome to discuss your future career or course options with your tutor or one of our dedicated careers advisors.

  • Using vehicles as electrical energy storage systems as part of prosumer’s installations

Teaching Learning and Assessment

The course and assessment are both theory based only. No practical element is included. You will need to return to college on a further date to complete your assessments. There are two assessments: one online multiple choice and one short answer paper.

Course Expenses

The course cost is £390 with resources recommended: The IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (4th Edition) at a cost of £75. We also recommend the IET On-Site Guide (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022) (Electrical Regulations) and IET Guidance Note 3 Inspection and Testing

How Will I Be Assessed

Candidates must:

  • Successfully complete x1 assignment
  • Successfully complete x1 online multiple choice test.

The knowledge requirements will be tested through the online multiple choice test and the practical requirements will be assessed through the assignment.

Entry Requirements

This course is intended for practicing electricians and as part of the assessment for this qualification, learners must hold one of the following:

  • 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
  • 5357 Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification
  • 2356 Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
  • 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Other Awarding Organisations equivalences will also be acceptable
  • Equivalent historical qualifications (see EAS Table 4B/4C on latest version)

    or
  • ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card
    For learners in Scotland:
  • Any of the above or
  • SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7 + Up to date BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations

    or
  • ECS Gold Card, JIB Electrician or Approved Electrician Card

Required Experience

The qualifications above must have been achieved no more than 5 years prior to starting this qualification or there must be evidence the candidate has remained current by completing relevant CPD such as a City and Guilds 2382 or equivalent. You will be invited for an interview to discuss your experience and suitability for this course.
