Course Overview

Our level 2 certificate in understanding nutrition and health is great for both individuals interested in nutrition and health, as well as employers looking for health training courses for their staff. This certificate in understanding nutrition and health provides training in the principles of healthy eating and weight management, nutrition in the context of eating disorders and how to prepare food safely in a home environment.

The effects of diet are felt throughout the body, from the way we look to our mental health so knowing how to maintain a healthy diet is important.

This course is part of Yeovil College’s new range of fully-online programmes – thoughtfully designed to allow maximum flexibility around work, family, or other life commitments. You’ll access all your resources through our dedicated online platform, and throughout your course, you’ll receive guidance and encouragement from a dedicated Yeovil College Assessor, who will mark your work and provide constructive feedback to help you progress confidently.

You can apply to start this course at any time, but should be aware that once you’ve completed the admissions process and enrolled, you will have a fixed number of weeks to complete your programme. After completing the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health, you may choose to apply your knowledge in roles that promote healthy lifestyles, such as within community health, fitness, or care settings. You might also consider continuing your learning journey with additional courses.

What Will I Learn

The programme is unit based. Each unit includes a full range of online learning tasks and activities and is assessed via a variety of assessment tasks. You can access your learning and assessments fully flexibly at a time to suit you. You will study a range of topics including:
Unit 1: Explore the principles of healthy eating
Unit 2: Consider the nutritional needs of a variety of individuals
Unit 3: Use food and nutrition information to plan a healthy diet
Unit 4: The principles of weight management
Unit 5: Understanding eating disorders
Unit 6: Principles of food safety for the home environment

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You’ll access all your resources through our dedicated online platform. You’ll submit your assignments online, and receive feedback from a dedicated Yeovil College Assessor to help you to progress.
As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.

Course Expenses

For students aged 19 and over, this course will be available free of charge, dependent upon your nationality and residency status.

The course is free of charge for UK nationals and those who have pre-settled or settled status or other right of abode, who live in the UK at the time of study. How Will I Be Assessed

Your progress will be assessed through assignments by assessors, who will offer detailed feedback for each question.

Assignments are classified as either pass or refer and if any modifications to information are necessary, you will receive specific guidance from your Yeovil College Assessor.

Assessment for this course involve six mandatory units, each including a set of questions forming the assignments. All assignments are to be completed online.

Entry Requirements

Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course, we recommend that students have a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2).
