Course Overview
This hands-on apprenticeship is ideal for those passionate about baking and looking to start a career in the bakery industry. Apprentices will learn essential skills in bread, pastry, and cake production, working with a variety of ingredients, techniques, and equipment. Through a blend of practical experience and off-the-job training, you’ll develop a strong understanding of food safety, product quality, and industry standards. Perfect for aspiring bakers looking to rise in a fast-paced and creative environment.
Qualification Gained
You will gain a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Bakery.
What Will I Learn
You will be able to follow one of the 3 pathways -
- Option 1. Craft Baker
- Option 2. Plant Baker
- Option 3. Retail Baker
You will look at the following core units -
Duty 1 - Prepare bakery products for customer/consumers, including packaging and labelling of bakery products.
Duty 2 - Contribute to material/stock control for bakery production for example, bakery ingredients, packaging, labels.
Duty 3 - Contribute to maintaining a clean and effective bakery production environment.
Duty 4 - Complete bakery documentation and records - paper-based or electronic. For example, legal and process compliance checks, hygiene records, weights and production reporting.
Duty 5 - Contribute to resolving issues with and making improvements to bakery products/production.
English And Maths
You will require a Grade 3 in English and Maths as a minimum in order to gain entry to the Level 2 Baker apprenticeship. If you hold a grade 3 you will be required to work towards your level 2 functional skills during your apprenticeship.
How Will I Be Assessed
You will have a tutor who will also be your assessor and teacher. You will work predominantly in the workplace with 12 masterclasses at college to be confirmed on application. Your apprenticeship will run over 14 months.
Entry Requirements
You will require a Grade 3 in English and Maths as a minimum in order to gain entry to the Level 2 Baker apprenticeship. If you hold a grade 3 you will be required to work towards your level 2 functional skills during your apprenticeship. You will also be required to complete a skills scan and initial assessment. You require a placement with an employer in a relatable field to your apprenticeship.
