Course Overview
Year 1 Bricklaying is a full time programme designed for those who have never completed any prior bricklaying training. Studying on this programme will develop a range of basic practical hand skills and theoretical knowledge.
Work Experience & Industry Placements
Learners will complete a range of industry related activities, ranging from specific site visits, guest speakers and toolbox talks
Qualification Gained
Learners will work towards a Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying
After The Course
Most learners progress onto the year 2 bricklaying course, or into an apprenticeship in Brickwork or related trade area.
What Will I Learn
By undertaking this qualification you will learn the associated skills needed to perform basic practical tasks, whilst using various building materials. You will gain an understanding of the basic principles of bricklaying.
English And Maths
Learners who do not already hold a Maths and / or English qualification at grade 4 or above will study these subjects as part of their college qualification.
Our Lecturers
Tim has worked in the construction industry for over 30 years, starting as apprentice bricklayer then working on many varied projects from domestic to commercial and infrastructure.
Enjoys spending time outside, camping and walking the dogs.
Also, member of national Airsoft team playing many unique sites throughout the UK.
Teaching Learning and Assessment
Through activities in our industry specific practical work shops and dedicated theory sessions.

Course Expenses
Learners are expected to provide their own PPE (work trousers, boots, high vis, gloves and safety spectacles). We also recommend learners purchase relevant tools as an investment, and course textbook to support their studies. Learners who join us on new students day will be given a kit list to help them prepare for their course.
How Will I Be Assessed
The course is assessed through a mix of practical assessments, exams and written work
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 3 (E-D) or above
Required Experience
None Required for this level of qualification. Learners who have experience of bricklaying and have achieved maths and English at grade 4 may be offered the year 2 programme.
