Course Overview
This is an industry recognised qualification aiming to give you the knowledge needed to work in the sports industry. Units covered include; understand the principles of exercise and fitness, demonstrate an understanding of safety factors relating to exercise and apply the principles of a training programme. Sessions will be a mixture of Theory and Practical lessons wherever possible linking theory with practical demonstration. There will be a range of assessment methods including practical demonstrations, written reports and presentations. You will take part in a number of adventurous activity trips throughout the year.
Work Experience & Industry Placements
You will gain valuable insight into the sports industry. Previous work experience has included; Coaching within Primary Schools, British Army and Sports Event management.
Qualification Gained
Gateway - Award in Sport, Fitness and Active Leisure.
After The Course
After successful completion of your course you can progress onto a Level 2 course in Sport or Uniformed Public Services at Yeovil College. Additionally, you may look for an apprenticeship or employment in the Sports industry.
What Will I Learn
Units to include; Understand the principles of exercise and fitness, Demonstrate an understanding of safety factors relating to exercise and Apply the principles of a training programme.
English And Maths
As part of your programme you will continue to attend English and Maths lessons as part of your progression and for future employment.
Teaching Learning and Assessment
Sessions will be a mixture of Theory and Practical lessons wherever possible linking theory with practical demonstration.
Tutorials
As a student, you will have weekly tutorials that are used for one to one support, progress updates, employability skills and workshops, taster sessions and guest speakers.
Course Expenses
Please note that optional trips and visits may incur additional fees.
How Will I Be Assessed
There will be a range of assessment methods including practical demonstrations, written reports and presentations.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English Language and Maths.
Required Experience
No previous experience however a strong desire to work in Sport or Public Services is desirable.
