Functional Skills English Level 2 - Block Week
Course Overview
Do you need proof of your English skills? Do you have all the skills, but no paperwork to back you up so that you can get your next job or promotion?
This short, fast paced, intensive course is designed to get you exam ready for your Level 2 Functional Skills English qualification. We'll help you master your techniques in areas that you need support and prepare you for taking your Level 2 exams at the end of the course.
Most employers and further education providers will accept a level 2 functional skills qualification in place of your GCSE certificate, but you will need to double check with your chosen employer, college or university.
The course is held on Wednesday and Thursday (full days) in the first week, then Wednesday and Thursday (full days) in the second week, with your exams booked for the Friday morning. There are limited spaces available, and very strict timelines for applications.

After The Course
What Will I Learn
You will have a whistle stop tour of the Functional Skills Level 2 English
syllabus, with focus on specific areas that you may need polishing.
The
syllabus includes:
Writing reports, articles, letters, blogs and more. For
the reading component you will be taught how to analyse certain reading texts to
obtain information about the purpose and intended audience of any text. You will
have the opportunity to compare and contrast different texts.

Teaching Learning and Assessment
As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services (during college hours), including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.
Course Expenses
For students aged 19 and over who don't yet hold their Functional Skills qualification (or equivalent), this course will be available free of charge, dependent upon your nationality and residency status.
All exercise books and folders are supplied by the college. You will need to provide a pen.
How Will I Be Assessed
This course is designed as a fast paced, intensive week of top up learning to help you to achieve your Level 2 qualification. Therefore, it is recommended that you have English competence at around this level already, but require the certificate to evidence your skills.
Prior to the course start, you will meet with a member of the team to complete a baseline assessment to determine the level that you are currently working at, so that we can ensure we know how best to support you through the course.

Applications must be processed no later than 6 weeks prior to the course date, and you will need to ensure you will be available for a telephone or in person interview and can come to college for an Initial Assessment (to determine the level you are currently working at)
