Skills Bootcamp in Electrical Installation, Testing, Certification and Reporting
Course Overview
Our Skills Bootcamp in Electrical Installation Inspection, Testing, Certification and Reporting programme is part of the Government's Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs. It has been designed to give individuals the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills for themselves and upskilling in new skills to be utilised in their current roles and responsibilities.
The Construction Department at Yeovil College has brought this government supported initiative to the doorsteps of our local community to assist individuals who are aspiring to upskill in Electrical Installation Inspection, Testing, Certification and Reporting and the Skills required for this area.
This Skills Bootcamp is intended to help upskill or reskill 19+ adults within our community so that they are able to fill the high in-demand Electrical Installation needs. The skills and curriculum content planned for delivery have been specially designed in collaboration with and acting on feedback from local and regional employers and industry specialists.
After The Course
Following completion of this course you could continue your electrical journey to other level 3 qualifications such as solar installation, or to level 4 courses looking at designing electrical installations.

What Will I Learn
Electrical Installation Techniques - Gain hands-on experience with installing electrical systems in domestic and commercial settings.
Inspection and Testing Procedures - Learn how to safely inspect and test electrical installations, including both dead and live (energised) tests.
Certification and Reporting - Understand how to complete the necessary documentation and certification in line with industry standards, including the use of IET Guidance Notes.
Use of Testing Equipment - Practical training on using industry-standard testing tools and interpreting results accurately.
Health & Safety and Regulations - Learn about current UK wiring regulations (e.g., 18th Edition) and safe working practices.
Learners will also have time to prepare for Assessments, including open-book exams and practical observations to demonstrate competence.
Our Lecturers
Teaching Learning and Assessment
1 day a week (Fridays). 8 full day sessions followed by a pre-booked practical assessment on a day to be agreed.
Teaching and learning is designed to support all students to achieve. There are a mixture of practical and theory-based sessions.
As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.
Course Expenses
Employer Referred
• As a small employer you will be required to pay a co-investment of 10% of the cost.
• As a large employer you will be required to pay a co-investment of 30% of the cost.
• Employees will need time away from work to attend weekly classes & coaching sessions.
Self-employed
• Fully Funded*

How Will I Be Assessed
There will be an online open book knowledge assessment under exam conditions.
On successful completion there will be a half day 1 to 1 practical assessment where you will demonstrate the correct skills on identifying and reporting issues and the correct procedures for testing electrical systems.
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
• Be aged 19+.
• Employed or Self-Employed.
• Must live or work in Somerset or Dorset.
• Agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information.
• Only study one Skills Bootcamp within one financial year.
• Commit to attending 1 day of study each week.
This course also requires a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2).

Required Experience
This course is designed for those who are already working in the sector to upskill and build their knowledge. Therefore, you must have a current level 3 Electrical qualification.
