Nail Technology - Level 2 Certificate
Course Overview
Are you aged 19+ and looking to start a career as an employed or self-employed nail technician? You may already be working in the beauty industry and would like to add another skill to your repertoire, or just starting out and looking for a new skill.
This extensive qualification is based on the nail services National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's leading professional bodies (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)) as being fit for purpose for preparing students for a career as a junior nail technician.
As a Level 2 Nail Technician, you'll work closely with clients, so it's important that applicants are comfortable interacting with people, including providing hands-on services like nail treatments. This course is perfect for those who enjoy building rapport with others and are happy to work in a practical, client-focused environment.

This course will provide you with a great introduction to the sector and support your potential to apply or start a career as a junior nail technician, including:
- Commercial nail salons
- Retail concessions 'nail bars'
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
After finishing this course, you will be ready to start building your confidence and skills to then work in the industry. This course will give you a great start, and the first cases to add to your portfolio, then, the rest is up to you! You could decide to take additional courses in the beauty or business sector, and would be welcome to discuss your options with your tutor. What Will I Learn
This 16 week, intensive course provide you with the opportunity to develop knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare you for employment as a junior nail technician or self-employment.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a nail technician including; providing and maintaining nail enhancements, manicure & pedicure treatments, health & safety and client care & communication.
Our Lecturers
Teaching Learning and Assessment
Teaching and learning is designed to support all students to achieve. The course is a mixture of theory and practical learning and teaching takes place in both a classroom and our professional salon settings. For theory lessons and completing assignments, it is helpful if you can bring your own mobile device so that you can access resources and materials.
You will be required to wear black trousers, a plain black t-shirt and black shoes for your lessons, in the place of a full, chargeable uniform.
You will be required to provide 4-6 different clients during the duration of the 16 week course to enable you to complete the varying criteria requirements. Assessments cannot be carried out on others undertaking the same course.
Five units are covered during the 16 weeks, as follows:
Unit One: Health and Safety. This is assessed by an exam, an assignment and 3 practical assessments.
Unit Two: Client Care & Communication. This is assessed by an assignment and 3 practical assessments.
Unit Three: Provide Manicure Treatments. This is assessed by 2 exams, an assignment and 3 practical assessments.
Unit 4: Provide Pedicure Treatments. This is assessed by 2 exams, an assignment and 3 practical assessments.
Unit Five: Provide Nail Enhancements. This is assessed by an exam and 6 practical assessments.
As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.
Course Expenses
The cost for this course is £486, however, there is a requirement that a kit is purchased so that you are able to practice your skills from home. You will also need to ensure that the kit is topped up and maintained throughout the duration of your course.

Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.
How Will I Be Assessed
Multiple assessments will take place over the duration of the course and will also be assessed in exams at various points during the course.
To successfully complete the practical elements of this course, applicants must be able to bring 4-6 models throughout the duration of the training. These models will be essential for practising and demonstrating your skills under the guidance of our instructors.
Please note that models are charged a small fee for treatments, as is standard practice across the college.
Assessments cannot be carried out on others undertaking the same course.
Entry Requirements
This course is open to anyone aged 19 or over, with an interest in gaining skills in the nail industry.
Whilst there are no other specific requirements, the course requires a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2).
