Laser & Intense Pulsed Laser (IPL) Treatments L4 Certificate
Course Overview
The Laser and Intense Pulse Laser Treatments L4 Certificate has been specifically designed for the 18+ age groups, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of therapy skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment. You will have your skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
This qualification will require research; it includes the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatment, tailored to suit individual client needs, use laser and light treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair removal and to manage the health, safety and security of the salon.
The course is studied over 12 weeks, and students are typically timetabled for 1 day per week.
Qualification Gained
VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments, awarded by the Vocational Training Charitable Trust, and regulated by the Office for Students.
After The Course
This course would prepare students well to work in the aesthetics industry, including roles in clinics and salons offering advanced skin treatments, with a focus on laser hair removal and skin rejuvenation.
What Will I Learn
You will study a range of units that will develop your specialist knowledge and skills. Modules currently offered include:
Management of Health, Safety and Security in the Salon Client Care and Communication in Beauty-Related Industries Laser and Light Treatments for Hair Removal Laser and Light Treatments for Skin RejuvenationAlongside developing a range of subject-specific skills, this course also gives you the opportunity to develop important transferable skills such as critical analysis, academic writing, time management, and communication.
Please be aware that modules studied may change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline, in response to student or stakeholder feedback, or because of regulatory body requirements. However, no significant changes to modules would be implemented without student consultation and feedback. Enrolled students can always find the most up-to-date information about their modules and who is teaching them in their course handbook.

Teaching Learning and Assessment
Learning will be achieved through a combination of class-based sessions, group activity, and independent study.
A typical week has around 7 hours of contact time in taught sessions, plus additional 1:1 support available by student request. As with all higher education programmes, students are required to take ownership of their learning and development and should therefore expect to spend time studying with independence outside of lectures. Time spent studying independently may include reading journal articles and relevant books, undertake research, and complete assignments by set deadlines.
As a rough guide, learners should expect to spend at least 3 hours studying outside of class per week.

Additional Costs: There is an additional resource fee of £200 to cover practical consumables and products. Professional salon wear must also be worn – this is optional to purchase if not already owned at a cost of £50.
Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.
How Will I Be Assessed
An assessment schedule, outlining all assessments and deadlines, will be issued to you at the start of the course. You will be assessed using a range of methods which will reflect the requirements of the subject, including assignments and practical assessments . Feedback will be provided to you in writing, along with information reflecting your performance and recommendations for improvement.
Entry Requirements
Entry Requirements: A Level 3 qualification in Beauty Therapy is required to apply for this course, as well as a GCSE English at Grade 4 / C (or equivalent, such as a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification). In addition, applicants must hold at least two years of current and relevant salon experience.
International Applicants: International applicants will be required to evidence English language skills - this could be an IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum score of 6.5 in each component, a grade 4 in GCSE English (or equivalent), or having recently completed a Level 3 qualification taught and assessed in the English language. Interviews: As part of the admissions process, applicants who meet the entry criteria for the course will be invited to attend an admissions interview with a member of staff from the course they are applying to. More information about the interview process can be found on the How to apply page.
Required Experience
Current salon Experience as a Beauty Therapist is essential. We recommend at least 2 years of salon experience is gained before completing this qualification.
