Course Overview

The Light Vehicle Apprenticeship in motor vehicle typically takes 3 years to achieve. On succesful completion of the apprenticeship you will be qualified to level 3 and be recognised by the industry as being fully competent. You will attend college one day a week and spend your remaining time with your employer learning the knowledge, skills and behaviours to operate as a vehicle technician in a technical and rapidly evolving sector.

After The Course

After you have succesfully completed your apprenticeship you may wish to consider our Level 4 Automotive Technicians course, becoming an MOT Tester or look at starting your own business.

What Will I Learn

As you move through the apprenticeship you will develop your skills and knowledge from basic car maintenance, removing and refitting components all the way up to complex diagnoisis and rectification of vehicle systems. You will study engine, transmission, chassis and electrical systems to ensure you are fully equiped to tackle any problems that you may face in todays industry.

English And Maths

Apprentices will be expected to have or achieve level 4 GCSE in maths and English.

Our Lecturers

Our lecturers have a passion for the motor vehicle industry. All have been technicians in the trade and regularly attend events to ensure their skills are up to date and relevant in the rapidly changing motor vehicle sector. They are passionate about sharing their knowledge with the next generation of vehicle technicians.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You will attend college one day a week, during your days at college you will partake in theory and practical learning sessions. At the end of each year you will be assessed on the knowledge, skills and behaviours you have obtained during your time as an apprentice. You will sit an End Point Assessment (EPA) towards the end of your apprenticeship, which if successful will class you as a qualified vehicle technician.

Course Expenses

In most cases your apprenticeship is funded under the Governments apprenticeship funding programme.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed against set Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours that have been developed by the industry. Your employer plays a large part in helping and supporting you becoming a competent technician. At the end of each year you will sit practical and knowledge based exams called Gateways. Your final assessment known as End Point Assessment will take place at the end of your apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

English and Maths at GCSE Grade 4 or above, a keen interest in the automotive repair sector and an employer willing to support you in achieving your goals.
