has won consecutive Tour de France titles? Then the Sport and Exercise Science
course at Yeovil College is for you. With passionate industry specialists, you
will experience a course that is designed to allow you to gain a holistic
understanding of how sports people become top athletes, as well as exploring
exercise in the general population. Through a range of practical, laboratory,
and theory sessions you will explore the body and mind with a view to sport and
exercise.
Work Experience & Industry Placements
You will have the oppportunity to complete work experience at professional sporting clubs, physiotherapists, psychologists, NHS and many more.
Qualification Gained
BTEC L3 Foundation Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (1 year)
BTEC L3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (2 years)
After The Course
Previous students that have studied sport & exercise science at Yeovil College have gone onto secure careers as physiotherapists, PE teachers, sports psychologists, cardiac physiologists, strength and conditioning specialists and performance analysts at elite sports clubs. Additional options may include careers in paramedicine, military and public services.
What Will I Learn
You will learn about a set of core subjects that are vital to a holistic understanding of sport and exercise science. These include Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology, and Biomechanics. In the second year, there is greater emphasis on the application of this knowledge to sport and exercise.
English And Maths
Report writing is a key part of working in sport and exercise science, therefore, English will be embedded in lessons to ensure you are writing to a high standard. In addition, maths plays an integral part in analysing sets of data with sport and exercise science - these will be skills worked upon throughout sessions.
Our Lecturers
You will be taught by a team of subject specialists with a range of industry experience.
Teaching Learning and Assessment
You will be taught using a range of teaching methods aimed at ensuring retention of scientific knowledge and greater application to sport and exercise. This will include scientific testing and analysis of sporting performance and training.
Tutorials
Weekly tutorials used for one to one support, progress updates, employability skills and workshops, taster sessions and guest speakers.
Course Expenses
How Will I Be Assessed
You will be assessed through a range of methods including written assignments, lab reports, data analysis, presentations, observations and practical activities.
Entry Requirements
You need a minimum of five GCSE's at grade 9-4, including English and maths. Grade 4 in Science is also preferable.
Required Experience
No previous experience required but a strong interest in the link between science and sport will help you to succeed on this course.
