Course Overview

The Preparation for Life & Work programme is designed for people with learning difficulties who want to develop a range of personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in life and work. This is more than just a qualification. This study programme is a up to two year course and will give you all the essential ingredients to help you become more independent upon leaving college. We focus on Maths, English and digital skills, as well as Independent Living Skills, Employability, Healthy Living, Relationships and Communities, ensuring that at the end of the programme, you leave feeling confident taking your next step either continuing in education or being able to live independently.

Qualification Gained

You will gain an OCR qualification in Life and Living Skills ranging from Entry 1 through to Entry 3, as well as qualifications in Maths and English.

After The Course

When you have successfully completed the course, you can then go on to apply for a Supported Internship, further FE study across the college or employment/voluntary work.

What Will I Learn

We begin with a baseline assessment to identify the units that best match your individual needs and interests. This ensures your learning journey is personalised and supports your progression to further education, employment, or independent living.

You may study units from a wide range of skill areas, including:

Personal and Social Skills – e.g. Developing self, Dealing with problems in daily life, Working as part of a group Communication – e.g. Making requests and asking questions, Providing personal information, Engaging in early reading activities

Our Lecturers

You will be taught by a highly qualified team who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in life skills – we hope you will use their experience and passion to help springboard your own learning.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

This course has a different approach to it. You don’t study a unit at a time, you will work on a mixture of units over the course of up to 2 years.

Your work will be collected over the duration of the course in a portfolio which will demonstrate your skills and knowledge.

Tutorials

This is your time and your opportunity to review progress. We will provide appropriate support, set you targets, keep you on track and ensure you achieve the very best outcomes for yourself. You’ll become the very best version of you.
