Course Overview

This woodworking course will teach you the techniques used in all aspects of basic carpentry and joinery. It is aimed at individuals who may be thinking about a career change or just looking to develop skills to complete tasks around the home or as a hobby.

City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Construction Skills (Carpentry and Joinery)

After The Course

This course will provide you with a great introduction to Carpentry and Joinery and support you to increase your potential to apply for entry-level Carpentry roles in the local job market. After finishing this course, you could decide to take additional courses, including our Level 2 Bench Joinery Course, or start an apprenticeship in this sector, and would be welcome to discuss your options with your tutor. If you are unsure of your options, you might like to discuss your journey with our dedicated careers advisors.

What Will I Learn

By undertaking this qualification, you will learn the associated skills needed to perform all basic joints used in woodwork, whilst developing the essential hand skills for installing and maintaining the key aspects of carpentry. The qualification will also provide the necessary H&S knowledge to support you working in the construction industry, along with tips and advice from our skilled lecturing team.

Our Carpentry Lecturers are passionate about the trade and bring a wealth of experience to the classrooms and workshops.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

You will be taught and assessed through a series of practical lessons. You will also be expected to complete online distance learning to acquire the skills needed to pass assessment and gain the qualification.

Course Expenses

Our course fee is £362, and you will also need to provide your own safety footwear and hi-viz vest.

Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.

How Will I Be Assessed

During the course your practical work will be assessed and you will also sit a paper based theory test on Health and Safety.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone with an interest in carpentry and joinery, and for people who would like to build up their DIY or hobby skills. There are no entry requirements for this course.

Required Experience

You do not have to have any experience in this area.
