Course Overview

The first industrial revolution came with the advent of mechanisation, steam power and water power. This was followed by the second industrial revolution, which revolved around mass production and assembly lines using electricity. The third industrial revolution came with electronics, I.T. systems and automation, which led to the fourth industrial revolution that is associated with cyber physical systems. Generally-speaking, Industry/ factory 4.0 describes the growing trend towards automation and data exchange in technology and processes within the manufacturing industry, including: Additive manufacturing, cyber physical production, cobots, virtual reality, communication methods and governance. The factory 4.0 programme is implemented to provide a practical overview of these technologies whilst analysing how they may be implemented into local industries and what hurdles may be encountered. Yeovil College is proud to be able to provide access to a state-of-the-art additive manufacturing centre, 6 stage cyber physical lab and associated cobotic companion all of which will provide hands on learning opportunities. This programme is designed to be 60 hours spread across 16 weeks broken down to 48 hours of lecturing and 12 hours of work or home-based project whereby a learner will look at what technologies can be implemented in their place of work.
