Kick Start

Our Kickstart programmes are designed for learners who are aged 16-18, to offer an opportunity for you to engage with learning, especially if you have found attending college on a full-time study programme challenging. These courses are aimed at giving you the opportunity to build on your skills, knowledge and confidence and enable you to progress into a more mainstream study programme, either in the same year or next. In addition to working on your English and maths, you can choose to spend part of your college day studying in one of our curriculum areas, such as Automotive, Construction, Health, Early Years, Hair and Beauty, Sport or Uniformed Public Services depending on availability and your future career aspirations. The Kick start programme that you decide to enrol on will determine the type of qualification that you will achieve. Most of our Kickstart programmes are aimed at Level 1 study.

Many skills, knowledge and behaviours learnt are transferable into other curriculum areas of the college.

This is dependent on the subject area that you choose. As part of the interview and enrolment process, we’ll be able to advise you further about your chosen programme.

Depending on your current level of English and maths we will look to integrate English and maths into your college day to ensure you have the skills for your next steps.

Our lecturers are industry specialists and experienced teachers that are focussed on supporting you to achieve the highest possible results.

You will attend one day a week, attending both theory and practical sessions depending on the Kickstart route. You will be required to compete a work pack of questions related to the topic. Excellent attendance, punctuality and enthusiasm for the course is required.

You will be asked to attend an interview to ensure you are enrolled on the correct Kickstart programme.
