Course Overview

The T Level in Health provides learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to be successful in a wide range of healthcare careers. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to progress on to further skilled technical training, nursing, midwifery, paramedic science degree courses, or directly into employment in healthcare support roles.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

All learners will undertake a mandatory industry placement during the 2-year study programme that lasts at least 45 days (315 hours+ across 2 years). This may be in blocks or one or two days per week during the year. This could be in any relevant health setting. In the second year you will be eligible for the YDH industry placement scheme where you would be placed on one of the wards that is of interest to you and your future career.

What Will I Learn

Your programme is broken down into two years, the first year is known as your core knowledge year. This will cover areas such as body systems, working in the healthcare sector, Managing personal information and data in the healthcare sector, Health and safety in the healthcare sector, Person-centred care in the healthcare sector, Your second year is known as your occupational specialism year, this will be the supporting nursing in the healthcare sector. Your second year will develop your skillset in your placements and focus on your key skills such as; Assisting the adult nursing team with clinical tasks, Supporting individuals to meet activities of daily living, Assisting with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions, To be able to undertake a range of physiological measurements, Assisting registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions, Assisting with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing.

English And Maths

Learners will be expected to complete a minimum of 5 GCSES with grades 5-9 this must include a grade 5 in GCSE English, Maths and Science.

How Will I Be Assessed

During your first year you will complete two exams which are identified as Paper A and Paper B which covers your learning of the core knowledge. You will also complete the employer set project (ESP), this is a 20 hour controlled assessment in which you will complete 4 different tasks to show your initial skillset based on a scenario you are provided with. They are all based on real life work scenarios that you will have experienced in placement and during class lessons. In year 2 you will complete three synoptic external assessments that are provided to you from the awarding body. You will be observed on one of your synoptic assessments to show your skillset of your occupational specialism. The rest of the assessment will consist of a mixture of presentations, practical skills tests, professional discussions and group tasks.
