Machining Technician - Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship (Starting between August 2024 and July 2025)

Machinists in the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering sector are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex and precision work, machining components from specialist materials using conventional and/or CNC machine tools such as centre lathes, vertical and horizontal milling machines, horizontal and cylindrical grinding machines, electro discharge machines, single and multi- axis CNC machine tools centres. They will be expected to be able set up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used. When using CNC equipment they will be expected to be able to produce, prove and/or edit programmes. During and on completion of the machining operations they will be expected to measure and check the components being produced and make adjustments to the equipment/programme to ensure components meet the required specification.

Machining including: Milling, turning, CNC and Grinding Business Improvement Techniques Health and Safety CAD Hand Fitting Maths and Science

Where required you will be expected to achievea English and maths qualifications at level 2.

Our lecturers are passionate about engineering. Having all worked as engineers we strive to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours enabling you to succeed in the world of engineering.

You will be taught using a range of practical and theoretical methods. Assessment will take place in the form of formatice/summative assessments, and reviews held with your assessor on a regular basis.

Learners are requried to demonstrate all evidence requirements, learning outcomes and assessment criteria through the production of an evidence based portfolio via; assessor observations, job write ups and professional discussions. Evidence will be naturally occurring examples across a range of units selected to allow the learner to demonstrate their competency in completing their regular work based activities.

Individual employers will set the recruitment and selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. In order to optimise success, candidates will typically have 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science
