T Level in Digital - Digital Production, Design and Development (September 2024 Start)

The T Level Technical Qualification in Digital Production, Design and Development is a 2-year qualification designed collaboratively between employers and digital industry specialists to equip learners with the right kind of knowledge and skills to enable them to either gain direct employment into the IT industry, progress to further technical training or progress to higher education university studies in IT.

It is a mixture of classroom learning and on-the-job experience which comes from a compulsory 315 hours of industry placement (approximately 45 days).

Successful completion of this T Level Digital Production, Design and Development programme will lead to the award of an internationally recognised technical certificate which is equivalent of 3 A-Levels and allows learner progress to further technical training, higher education university studies or directly into employment in the IT industry.

The certification will clearly shows all the technical knowledge and skills learners have acquired together with the occupational specialism they have engaged in through industry placement. This enables prospective employers and training providers to recognise the level of competence you have developed through the technical qualification.

The T Level in Digital Production is a full package that has been designed to equip learners with technical skills across Computer networking, Software programming, Data processing, Business practices and the necessary Legal awareness required when working within the digital industries.

You will learn how to develop computing solutions and manage the process through the following topics:
1. Problem solving
2. Programming and Testing
3. Emerging issues and impact of digital technologies
4. Legislation and regulatory requirements
5. Business context
6. Data
7. Digital network environments
8. Security in digital spaces

Minimum of a grade 4 in both GCSE English and Maths

The lecturing team consist of highly qualified and experienced practitioners who are dedicated to ensuring students success through effective curriculum delivery and pastoral support. Most of the current lecturers have had relevant industry experience in IT.

There are two main components in this technical qualification – the Core component and the Occupational specialism. Learners will benefit from a combination of tutor-led sessions, lectures, seminars, group discussions and research. The learning environment is rich with technology tools both in the practical IT lab rooms and our Virtual Learning Environments (VLE).

Lessons are packed with hands-on practical activities and use of simulation software to familiarise learners with collaborative development and teamwork. In addition to this, learners will also get the opportunity to put their skills to work in their industry placement and benefit from the support of professionals who work in the digital industry where they complete their 315 hours of work experience.

The Programme Core component has three sets of assessments:
Exam Paper 1
Exam Paper 2
Employer set project).

The Occupational Specialism component will be assessed through a major project which will allow learners to show-case all the skills they have gained overall through the development of a capstone project.

An overview of the four parts of this synoptic assessment is shown below:
• Task 1: Analysing the problem and designing a solution.
• Task 2: Developing the solution.
• Task 3a: Gathering feedback to inform future development.
• Task 3b: Evaluating feedback to inform further development

A GCSE grade profile of at least 5 relevant subjects including English and Maths is required for entry into this qualification. These must all be achieved at grade 4 or above.

Applicants who do not meet this requirement will be admitted into our 1-year T Level Foundation programme which will help to get them fully prepared and confident to pursue the T Levels technical qualification
