Course Overview

T Levels will give 16-19 year old learners the technical knowledge and practical skills that are valued by the industry. They follow immediately after GCSEs as a technical alternative to A-Levels. They are the biggest reform to vocational training in a generation, giving learners the skills, knowledge, and attitude to excel in the engineering sector.

The T Level programme includes the following compulsory elements:

- Core engineering theory, concepts and skills;

- Specialist engineering skills and knowledge;

- Industry placement with an engineering employer;

- A minimum standard in maths and English if learners have not already achieved them at the start of their T Levels.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

The industry placement runs for a minimum of 315 hours (45 days) overall and has the following benefits:

- Develop the relevant knowledge and skills related to your course and future career aspirations;

- Help you gain a greater understanding of what it’s like to work in your chosen industry;

- Receive coaching and mentoring from a line manager;

- Improve your ability to get a job.


After The Course

You have several progression options which include the following:


- Employment in an engineering company with the potential to earn up to £24,000, which could rise as high as £36,000 upon the completion of further training, qualifications and development.

- Employment as an engineering apprentice with the potential to earn up to £28,000 during your apprenticeship.

- Progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Completion of this qualification gives you the potential to earn up to 168 UCAS points which is equivalent to A levels. Upon completion of this 'top-up' year you would have these additional progression opportunities:

- Study an engineering related subject at a higher level either at our University Centre or a university of your choosing.

- Employment as a degree engineering apprentice with the potential to earn up to £31,000 during your apprenticeship.

NOTE: 'Higher level' refers to HNC (level 4), HND (level 5) and Degree (level 6).

What Will I Learn

In the first year of this two year programme, you will learn the Engineering common core knowledge, in which you must pass two exams and an employer set project, areas of study over the two years are:

- Key engineering principles

- Engineering math and science

- Materials and their properties

- Electrical and electronic principles

- Mechatronics

- Engineering and manufacturing control systems

- Quality management and control

- Professional responsibilities, attitudes, and behaviours

- Continuous improvement

- Project and programme management

- Control theory

- Machining and tooling

- CAD/CAM and CNC


Entry Requirements

Grade 5 or above in Maths, English Language and Literature.
