Apprenticeship units
Flexible Skills. Immediate Impact. Real Results.
Apprenticeship Units are a new, flexible approach to workforce development, designed to help employers upskill staff quickly, efficiently, and with real impact.
What Are Apprenticeship Units?
Apprenticeship Units are short, government-funded training programmes that focus on a specific skill or area of expertise.
Think of a full apprenticeship as the whole programme – an apprenticeship unit is a focused section of that programme, delivered as a standalone course.
They are:
- Built from existing national apprenticeship standards
- Designed to develop targeted, in-demand skills
- Recognised and aligned to industry requirements
- Delivered in a fraction of the time of a full apprenticeship.
Why Choose Apprenticeship Units?
- Speed and Flexibility: Unlike traditional apprenticeships, which can take 12–48 months, apprenticeship units are delivered in as little as 1–16 weeks. This allows employers to respond rapidly to changing industry needs.
- Targeted Upskilling: Each unit focuses on a specific skill set, allowing you to address immediate workforce gaps without committing to a full programme. Perfect for: Introducing new technologies; Enhancing team capability; Supporting business growth.
- Government Funded: Apprenticeship Units are funded through the Growth and Skills Levy, making them highly accessible for fully funded for many employer and levy funds can be used flexibly for short-form training
- Designed for Employers: Apprenticeship Units are tailored for existing employees aged 19+, focusing on upskilling rather than entry-level recruitment. This ensures immediate workplace impact and measurable returns.
How Do They Work?
- Training is delivered over 30–140 hours
- Programmes typically run over 1–16 weeks
- Learning is applied directly in the workplace
- Assessment focuses on real skills and practical outcomes
Units can also be stacked together, building towards broader capability or even contributing to a full apprenticeship pathway over time.
