Yeovil College is excited to announce its support for National Supported Internship Day on 27th March 2025, reaffirming its commitment to the power of opportunities and the potential of every student.
Yeovil College believes in the transformative impact of inclusive and supportive internships. These internships provide students with valuable work experience, essential skill development, and the confidence needed for their future careers. By fostering such opportunities, Yeovil College aims to create a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
In celebration of National Supported Internship Day, Yeovil College plans to showcase the remarkable achievements of its Supported Internship students, the dedication of its staff team, and the invaluable support from employers who partner with the college.
The following findings underscore the value of supported internships in facilitating the transition from education to employment for young people:
- Employment Rates: Supported internships have shown higher employment rates for people with intellectual disabilities and autism compared to other models. For instance, the Engage to Change project reported that supported internships led to employment at rates higher than the national average for this population.
- Positive Outcomes: The Department for Education’s evaluation of the supported internship programme investment highlighted improvements in both the quality and quantity of supported internships, as well as better employment outcomes for participants.
- Skill Development: Supported internships are effective in helping young people with intellectual disabilities and autism develop essential skills, increase their confidence, and make informed choices regarding employment.
Mark Bolton, Principal & CEO of Yeovil College, commented: “We are incredibly proud of our Supported Internship programme and the positive impact it has on our students’ lives. By providing these opportunities, we are not only helping our students build their futures but also strengthening our community and local economy.”
Yeovil College invites everyone to join in celebrating and promoting the importance of supported internships, highlighting the positive difference they make in the lives of students and the community.
