YC Winning at Westminster

Last week, the Great South West Defence Board members, invited guests, and Parliamentarians gathered at a Westminster Reception to launch the Great South West Defence prospectus.

Mark Bolton, CEO & Principal of Yeovil College, had the pleasure of joining close partners Neil Skelland, Director of Business Development at Atlas Elektronik, Clive Higgins, Chair & CEO of Leonardo Helicopters UK, MP Adam Dance, and Yeovil College Apprentices working in tier 1 defence suppliers. Partners showcased the incredible capability and capacity of the South West in delivering National Security for the UK and our allies.

The afternoon was a vibrant demonstration of our sector’s strength, with guest speakers highlighting the South West’s valuable contributions. Key contributions came from Luke Pollard MP, Fred Thomas MP, Tan Dhesi MP, Clive Higgins (Chair & CEO of Leonardo UK), Neil Skelland (Director of Business Development at Atlas Elektronik and Chair of the Great South West Defence & Security Programme Board), Helen Maguire MP, and Steve Race MP. Their support for the prospectus launch and the South West Defence sector’s role in National Security, economic growth, and technological advancements was warmly received.

Many of these businesses are based in South Somerset, North, and West Dorset, offering amazing employment opportunities at the forefront of technology. These exciting careers make a difference and can take individuals around the world.
