Course Overview
This unit builds the strategic and practical capability required to move from AI ambition to defensible, evidence-based adoption. Learners develop the skills to evaluate AI use cases, assess suppliers and delivery models, manage risk, and design governance frameworks that ensure accountability and transparency across the AI lifecycle.
The programme places strong emphasis on ethical, legal, regulatory, and human-centric considerations. Students learn how to embed responsible AI principles into procurement, oversight, assurance, and compliance processes, ensuring that AI systems are adopted in a way that supports organisational resilience and public trust.

Learning outcomes:
- Evaluate AI solutions and vendors using structured criteria following organisational process (cost, performance, risk, data readiness).
- Make procurement decisions based on testing, benchmarking and user validation following organisational policy and process.
- Assess risks associated with AI acquisition, including vendor lock-in, data, IP, and sustainability.
- Design and implement AI governance frameworks, including roles, responsibilities and escalation pathways.
- Embed ethical, legal and regulatory considerations into AI decision-making processes.
- Define assurance and compliance processes, including documentation, auditability and transparency.
- Design and implement human oversight mechanisms for AI systems.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements:
- Learners must be employed and must be 19 years or over. Must be working in a leadership position within an organisation with autonomy to deliver technological change and inform investment decisions.
- Functional Skills Level 2 English and maths is required at enrolment.
- Equivalent professional certifications, and relevant work experience will be discussed at interview.
