Course Overview

This course is designed for people aged 19 or older who are considering a career in Hairdressing. This course will take place in person at Yeovil College and will be delivered over two evenings per week for the whole academic year. This programme is for those wishing to learn hairdressing skills and have a passion for the Industry. The course will focus on a range of units relevant to the modern hairdresser.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

Work experience is not a requirement of the programme but is highly encouraged to be able to develop your skills further.

Qualification Gained

Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing.

After The Course

After completing this Level 2 course, you could choose to progress onto the Level 3 Women's Hairdressing NVQ.

This qualification could be your route into the hair industry as a junior hair stylist, and you could decide to take additional courses in this sector to enhance your career.

What Will I Learn

You will learn how a variety of hairdressing skills relating to hairdressing services. Units include; providing a client consultation, follow health and safety in a salon, working in the hairdressing sector, promoting products and services to clients, hair cutting, shampoo and condition the hair, style and dress hair and Colour and lighten hair.

Please note that specific modules may vary over time in line with student feedback, employer input, awarding body changes, sector requirements, and lecturer expertise.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Teaching and learning is designed to support all students to achieve. There are a mixture of practical and theory-based sessions, with your practical learning taking place in our well-equipped professional salon.

As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.

Course Expenses

There are course fees - please speak to izone for updated cost for this coming year. You will also need to purchase additional kit and uniform from approx £450 and have the opportunity to attend educational visits and training for additional costs.

Additional costs may be covered by our financial assistance bursary which you can apply for once you have had your place confirmed and at that point, you will be provided with the bursary application form.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed through practical observation, online and written exams and through online work packs. You will complete a work pack and multiple choice exams throughout the duration of this course. You will need to complete the workbook and pass the multiple choice tests in order to achieve the qualification.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone with an interest in Hairdressing. This course requires a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2). Required Experience

No previous experience is necessary, however industry experience is helpful.
