Course Overview

This qualification covers all elements of becoming a junior barber and will give you the basic understanding and techniques to be able to work in a barbershop as a Junior Barber. Units from: shampoo and conditioning, styling men's hair, basic men's hair cutting and facial beard design. During your course you will also learn reception skills and how to develop and enhance your hair skills in industry.

Work Experience & Industry Placements

There is a requirement for Industry placement in a Barbers/salon one day a week to give you the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to successfully build your experience. This needs to be found prior to starting in September.

Qualification Gained

Level 2 Diploma in Barbering.

After The Course

You can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Barbering or Level 2 Barbering professional Apprenticeship.

What Will I Learn

You will learn how to:

  • Advise and consult with clients
  • Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Cut men's hair using basic techniques
  • Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
  • Dry and finish men's hair
  • Create basic outlines and detailing in hair
  • Assist with shaving services
  • Fulfil Salon reception duties

English And Maths

Maths and English Grades 3-4 and above as minimum entry requirement.

Course Expenses

You will need to purchase kit and uniform which will cost approx. £300, plus additional trips as required.

How Will I Be Assessed

You will be assessed through practical observations and assessments must be carried out to complete this course which will involve you needing to source your own hair models. Online exams and through online work packs.

Entry Requirements

Good knowledge of Maths and English (Grade 3-4 or above) is required. You will be required to take part in a practical skills scan to determine your starting point and natural flare for Barbering.

Required Experience

No previous experience is required, but industry placement 1 day a week is required as part of your course. This placement needs to be sourced prior to September.
