Nine Yeovil College first year Maths students were recently recognised at the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge

The UKMT Senior Maths Challenge is an annual national competition organized by the UK Mathematics Trust for sixth-form students in the UK.

The competition requires students to answer 25 very challenging maths questions using their skill, insight and problem-solving ability. The questions are not related directly to the A Level Maths specification and are intended to stretch students to think logically and laterally. High-performing students receive medals and each year the top few Maths students in the country are eligible to go onto the national and international Olympiads.

Due to COVID restrictions, the students were allowed to enter online rather than take the paper test in college and they all adapted very well to the change in format.

Jasmine Read, formerly of Preston School, achieved our highest score and won the silver medal with Elijah Wood, formerly of Westfield Academy, securing bronze. Niamh Campbell, Stacey Gavin, Kacper Godlewski, Harry Morris and Ashley MacLauchlan, Sam Grimster and Tom Smith were also recognised and received certificates of participation.
