Chair of the Corporation supports charity with an open garden under the National Garden Scheme
Chair of the Yeovil College Corporation, Peter Thomas, his wife Morene and his gardening partners, Christine and Steve, are opening their garden to generate much needed income for those charities supported by the National Garden Scheme (NGS). Under the National Garden Scheme, the gardening team will open their beautiful garden (Rugg Farm, Limington) to the public for one final time.
Peter said: “It is five years since Rugg Farm Garden in Limington last opened under the National Garden Scheme. We intend to re-open in 2021 for one final time to support the charities that the NGS helps fund, whose income for 2020 will have been so significantly reduced.
Many garden visitors from Somerset and beyond will have visited in the past and with their support we raised over £13,000. We were privileged to receive visits from groups and individuals, and we would welcome returning visitors who would like to see how the garden has evolved as well as anyone interested in seeing, we think, a beautiful Somerset garden.”
The journey of the Rugg Farm development began in 2007 when Peter, Morene, Christine and Steve were presented with virtually a blank canvas. Rugg Farm has been developed with a series of contrasting spaces over its two acres which are maturing well. The garden is planted with hundreds of trees and shrubs, mixed with perennials and annuals. The gardening team do not employ a gardener but have enjoyed creating the garden themselves, with the exception of some hard landscaping and fencing. A kitchen garden, small orchard and pond, woodland areas together with more contemporary plantings provide something of interest for everyone. The garden is designed to attract pollinators and insects throughout the year with densely packed beds and borders. Late May to early July are described as the most colourful times to visit.
Visits will be safe, and the team are abiding by all government restrictions. Visits can be arranged to suit requirements and refreshments can be provided to match the time of day, or evening, of all visits. Entry is £5 (£7 with refreshments).
