From Construction to Classroom: Start Teaching at College

6 May 2026

Register

If you work in the construction industry and have ever thought, “I could teach someone this,” then Yeovil College wants to hear from you.

On 6th May 2026, we’re opening our doors to construction professionals who are interested in sharing their skills, shaping the next generation, and exploring a flexible, supported route into teaching.

Whether you’re a bricklayer, carpenter, electrician, plumber, site manager or multi‑trade specialist, your expertise is in demand, and you don’t need teaching experience to get started.

A New Career, One Day a Week

Many of our construction staff began with just one day a week at Yeovil College. This flexible approach allows you to stay in industry while trying something new, giving you time to adjust, learn, and build confidence in the classroom. You can begin through:

  • Shadowing current teachers
  • Workshop support roles
  • Technician positions
  • Volunteer days (try teaching before committing).

We’ll provide the mentoring, training and guidance you need, every step of the way.

Why Consider Teaching Construction?

Moving from the tools to teaching doesn’t mean leaving your trade behind, it means using your experience to build something bigger.

At Yeovil College, you’ll benefit from:

  • More predictable working hours
  • Greater work–life balance
  • Paid holidays and an extra Christmas break
  • Professional development and free qualifications and training
  • A supportive team of mentors
  • The chance to inspire the next generation of construction talent.

This is your opportunity to shape the workforce of tomorrow.

Try Before You Buy — No Commitment

If you’re unsure whether teaching is right for you, we offer a no‑pressure volunteer programme where you can:

  • Observe lessons
  • Support practical workshops
  • Meet our team
  • Get a feel for the environment.

You can do this over a week, fortnight or month, six-months, whatever works for you.

Join Us on 6th May

Whether you’re ready to step straight into teaching or want to explore the idea slowly, we’ll support you every step of the way.
